Autumn’s Onset: Rama’s Lament and Lakshmana Sent to Sugriva
तर्पयित्वा सहस्राक्षस्सलिलेन वसुन्धराम्।निर्वर्तयित्वा सस्यानि कृतकर्मा व्यवस्थितः।।
tarpayitvā sahasrākṣaḥ salilena vasundharām | nirvartayitvā sasyāni kṛtakarmā vyavasthitaḥ ||
सहस्राक्ष इन्द्र ने जल से वसुन्धरा को तृप्त कर, अन्न-धान्य को परिपक्व कर दिया; कर्तव्य पूर्ण कर अब वह स्थिर होकर विराजमान है।
'Having satisfied the earth with abundant rain water and having fulfilled the task of ripening the crops, the thousand-eyed Indra has done his duty, has settled down now.
Dharma is duty performed to completion: even the cosmic ruler (Indra) is portrayed as acting, finishing the task, and then resting—an example for human obligation and follow-through.
Rama marks the end of the rainy season and uses nature’s rhythm to underline that the time for promised action has arrived.
Sense of timing and duty-consciousness—reading the moral lesson of nature as a call to human responsibility.
