Daśagrīva-boonāvaraṇa, Viṣṇv-avatāra-niyoga, Vānara-sahāya-janana, Mantharā-nirmāṇa
तस्माद् दु:खार्जितस्यैव परित्याग: सुदुष्कर: । न दुष्करतरं दानात् तस्माद् दान॑ मतं मम
tasmād duḥkhārjitasyaiva parityāgaḥ suduṣkaraḥ | na duṣkarataraṃ dānāt tasmād dānaṃ mataṃ mama ||
इसलिए दुःख सहकर कमाए हुए धन का त्याग करना अत्यन्त कठिन है। दान से बढ़कर कोई दुष्कर कार्य नहीं; अतः मेरे मत में दान ही श्रेष्ठ है।
व्यास उवाच
True dāna is the hardest virtue because it requires surrendering wealth that one has obtained through personal struggle; precisely for that reason, giving is praised as the highest ethical act.
Vyāsa states a moral evaluation within the discourse: he highlights the psychological and ethical difficulty of parting with hard-earned resources, using this to elevate dāna as supremely meritorious.
