nityānuṣaktavairā hi bhrātaro devadānavāḥ | parapakṣeṇa sambandhaṃ rocayiṣyāmy ahaṃ katham ||
Even when there is blood-kinship, a relationship that is structurally rooted in perpetual hostility should not be strengthened through marriage; ethical and political prudence requires recognizing enduring enmity and avoiding alliances that intensify conflict.
Nārada explains his refusal to approve a marital connection with the opposing camp, reasoning that although Devas and Dānavas share brotherhood, their long-standing, continual enmity makes such an alliance unacceptable.
