भीष्मद्रोणयोर्दुर्योधनं प्रति शान्त्युपदेशः | Bhīṣma and Droṇa’s Counsel to Duryodhana for Pacification
“जो लोग तुम्हें युद्धके लिये उत्साहित कर रहे हैं, ये कभी तुम्हारे काम नहीं आ सकते। ये युद्धका अवसर आनेपर वैरका बोझ दूसरेके कंधेपर डाल देंगे ।।
vaiśampāyana uvāca | mā jīghnaḥ prajāḥ sarvāḥ putrān bhrātṝṃs tathaiva ca | vāsudevārjunau yatra viddhy ajeyānalaṃ hi tān ||
समस्त प्रजाओं तथा पुत्रों और भाइयों का वध न कराओ। जहाँ भगवान् वासुदेव (श्रीकृष्ण) और अर्जुन हैं, उन्हें युद्ध में अजेय जानो।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Do not be swept into a destructive war by instigators who will not bear its consequences; restrain violence against one’s own people and recognize the practical and moral weight of fighting against a side supported by Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna, deemed invincible.
In the Udyoga Parva’s war-preparation context, Vaiśampāyana reports counsel warning a leader not to authorize mass killing of subjects and kin, and to understand that those aligned with Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna are effectively unbeatable—making escalation both ethically ruinous and strategically unsound.
