Strī Parva, Adhyāya 2 — Vidura’s Consolation on Kāla, Karma, and the Limits of Lamentation (विदुरोपदेशः)
anyām anyāṁ dhanāvasthāṁ prāpya vaiśeṣikīṁ narāḥ
Worldly prosperity is variable and individualized; therefore one should not base one’s moral judgment, pride, or grief solely on wealth and external fortune, but seek steadiness through dharma and discernment.
Vidura is speaking in a consolatory and instructive mode, reflecting on how people experience different fortunes; the line supports a broader counsel to respond to calamity and success with ethical steadiness rather than attachment to changing circumstances.
