Rules for Dharmic Victory in Kṣatriya Engagement
आत्मानमात्मना हन्ति पापो निकृतिजीवन: । सज्जनोंका धर्म सदा सत्पुरुषोंमें ही रहा है। अतः उसका आश्रय लेकर उसे नष्ट न करे। धर्मयुद्धमें तत्पर हुआ जो क्षत्रिय अधर्मसे विजय पाता है
ātmānam ātmanā hanti pāpo nikṛtijīvanaḥ |
भीष्म बोले—जो पापी छल-कपट को अपनी जीविका बनाता है, वह अपने ही द्वारा अपना नाश कर लेता है। धर्म सदा सज्जनों और सत्पुरुषों में निवास करता है; अतः उसका आश्रय लेकर उसे नष्ट न करे। धर्मयुद्ध में भी जो क्षत्रिय अधर्म से—छल और कपट द्वारा—विजय चाहता है, वह पापी अंततः स्वयं ही विनष्ट हो जाता है।
