आपद्धर्मे वैश्यवृत्तिः, विक्रय-निषेधाः, तथा ब्रह्म-क्षत्र-सम्बन्धः

भीष्म उवाच अशक्ति: क्षत्रधर्मेण वैश्यधर्मेण वर्तयेत् । कृषिगोरक्ष्यमास्थाय व्यसने वृत्तिसंक्षये
bhīṣma uvāca aśaktiḥ kṣatradharmeṇa vaiśyadharmeṇa vartayet | kṛṣigorakṣyam āsthāya vyasane vṛttisaṃkṣaye ||
भीष्म ने कहा—यदि कोई क्षात्रधर्म से निर्वाह करने में असमर्थ हो, तो उसे वैश्यधर्म के अनुसार आचरण करके जीवन-यापन करना चाहिए। विपत्ति में, जब अपनी सामान्य वृत्ति क्षीण हो जाए, तब कृषि और गो-रक्षा (पशुपालन) का आश्रय लेकर निर्वाह करे।
