आपद्धर्मे वैश्यवृत्तिः, विक्रय-निषेधाः, तथा ब्रह्म-क्षत्र-सम्बन्धः

भवते*हं ददानीदं भवानेतत् प्रयच्छतु । रुचितो वर्तते धर्मो न बलात् सम्प्रवर्तते
bhavate ’haṃ dadānīdaṃ bhavān etat prayacchatu | rucito vartate dharmo na balāt sampravartate ||
भीष्म बोले—‘मैं आपको यह देता हूँ, आप बदले में मुझे वह दीजिए’—इस प्रकार दोनों की रुचि और सहमति से जो वस्तुओं का विनिमय होता है, वही धर्म है। परन्तु बलपूर्वक किया गया विनिमय धर्म नहीं होता।
