न हि नो भ्रूणहा कश्चिज्जातापद्यनूृतोडपि वा | पूर्वाशी वा कुले हास्मिन् देवतातिथिबन्धुषु
na hi no bhrūṇahā kaścid jātāpatyanṛto 'pi vā | pūrvāśī vā kule 'smin devatātithibandhuṣu ||
भीष्म ने कहा—हमारे इस कुल में न कोई भ्रूणहन्ता हुआ है, न किसी की संतान जन्म लेकर मरती रही है, न कोई मिथ्याभाषी हुआ है, और न कोई ऐसा है जो देवता, अतिथि और बन्धुओं को अन्न अर्पित किए बिना पहले स्वयं भोजन कर ले।
