Even amid personal distress, one should remain established in the highest dharma; the arrival of an atithi (guest) becomes an ethical occasion to practice righteousness through hospitality, restraint, and proper conduct.
A person who has been suffering and reflecting is described as still adhering to supreme dharma. At that moment, a composed Brahmin arrives as a guest, setting up the next episode where the host’s values will be tested through the duties owed to an atithi.
