The verse portrays grief as an overwhelming force that can submerge the mind; it implicitly points to the ethical need for support, counsel, and steadiness when sorrow threatens to overpower one’s discernment.
Vaiśaṃpāyana voices a lament: the speaker feels seized by intense sorrow, describing himself as drowning in an ocean of grief and asking who could possibly lift him out of it at this moment.
