वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores that sustained, rigorous self-discipline (tapas) prepares a person to receive reliable, dharma-oriented knowledge; true instruction is marked by Vedic clarity and ethical authority.
After undertaking extremely severe austerities for a thousand divine years, the practitioners (referred to as ‘they’) hear a sweet, authoritative voice characterized as being adorned with the Vedas and Vedāṅgas—indicating a revelatory or instructive moment following prolonged penance.
