Educational Q&A

The verse commends seeking vivikta (secluded) and puṇya (sanctifying) environments—riverbanks, forests, temples, and lakes—as supports for inner restraint, contemplation, and the pursuit of dharma through a disciplined life.

Vasiṣṭha is describing the conduct or dwelling-pattern of a spiritually oriented person: instead of worldly bustle, he repeatedly chooses solitary natural and sacred locations conducive to austerity, reflection, and spiritual practice.
