The verse teaches inner mastery: cultivate tapas (disciplined effort), dama (sense-restraint), satya (truthfulness), and vigilant self-guarding, and untie the heart’s knots of attachment so that pleasure and pain no longer dominate one’s responses.
Haṃsa, speaking as a spiritual instructor, addresses seekers of the deathless and summarizes the practical disciplines that lead toward liberation: ethical truth, restraint, austerity, and detachment from emotional reactivity to what is liked or disliked.
