Viṣṇor Māhātmya and Indriya-saṃyama
sā tu śāpaparitrastā tatsvabhāvānuvartinī | māyūra-jīrṇa-parṇānāṃ vastraṃ tasyāś ca varṇitam ||
The verse highlights steadfast adherence to dharma under adversity: even when frightened by a curse, the woman remains devoted to righteous conduct and to following her husband’s disposition, embodying humility and austerity rather than seeking comfort or display.
Nārada describes a brāhmaṇī who, shaken by a curse, continues to live in strict simplicity and conformity with her husband’s way of life; her garment is said to be fashioned from old, fallen peacock feathers stitched together.
