प्रजापतयः देवगणाश्च दिशि-दिशि स्थिताः ऋषयः

मही महीजा: पवनो<न््तरिक्ष॑ जलौकसश्लैव जलं दिवं च । दिवौकसश्चापि यतः प्रसूता- स्तदुच्यतां मे भगवन् पुराणम्
bhīṣma uvāca |
mahī mahījāḥ pavano 'ntarikṣaṃ jalaukasaś caiva jalaṃ divaṃ ca |
divaukasaś cāpi yataḥ prasūtās tad ucyatāṃ me bhagavan purāṇam ||
भीष्म बोले—भगवन्! जिस पुरातन तत्त्व से पृथ्वी और पृथ्वीजन्य पदार्थ, वायु, अन्तरिक्ष, जलचर प्राणी, जल, द्युलोक तथा द्युलोकवासी देवता उत्पन्न होते हैं—वह प्राचीन मूल क्या है? मुझे बताइये।
