The verse teaches yogic interiorization: gathering the five vital currents and then linking the mind to regulated prāṇa and apāna, so attention becomes steady and fit for higher concentration and liberation-oriented practice.
Bhīṣma describes a disciplined meditative procedure performed by two practitioners: they mentally establish the five vāyus (vital functions) and then unite the mind with prāṇa and apāna as a preparatory step for focused contemplation.
