Bhṛgu–Bharadvāja-saṃvāda: Vānaprastha-parivrājaka-ācāra, Abhaya-dharma, and Lokānāṃ Vibhāga (Śānti-parva 185)

इष्टश्नानिष्टगन्धश्न मधुर: कटुरेव च । निहरि संहत: स्निग्धो रूक्षो विशद एव च

iṣṭaśnān iṣṭagandhaś ca madhuraḥ kaṭur eva ca | nihāri saṃhataḥ snigdho rūkṣo viśada eva ca ||

भरद्वाज बोले—(आहार) प्रिय गन्ध वाला भी होता है और अप्रिय गन्ध वाला भी; वह मधुर भी होता है और कटु भी। वह तरल-सा (झोलयुक्त) भी होता है, सघन और बँधा हुआ भी; स्निग्ध भी होता है, रूक्ष भी; और विशद—स्वच्छ तथा शुद्ध भी होता है।
