भीष्मजी कहते हैं--राजन्! वे गीध और गीदड़ दोनों ही भूखे थे और अपने उद्देश्यकी सिद्धिके लिये मृतकके बन्धु-बान्धवोंसे बातें करते थे। गीध कहता था कि सूर्य अस्त हो गये और सियार कहता था नहीं ।।
svakāryabaddhakakṣau tau rājan gṛdhro 'tha jambukaḥ | kṣutpipāsāpariśrāntau śāstram ālambya jalpataḥ ||
भीष्मजी बोले—राजन्! गीध और सियार दोनों ही अपने-अपने प्रयोजन की सिद्धि में लगे थे। भूख-प्यास से व्याकुल होकर वे शास्त्र का सहारा लेकर वाद-विवाद करते थे—एक कहता, ‘सूर्य अस्त हो गया’, दूसरा कहता, ‘नहीं हुआ’।
