Aśvatthāmā’s Stuti of Rudra and Śiva’s Empowerment (सौप्तिकपर्व, अध्याय ७)
nityānandapramuditā vāgīśā vītamatsarāḥ | prāpyāṣṭaguṇamaiśvaryaṃ ye na yāsyanti vai smayam ||
Even extraordinary attainments—such as the eightfold powers (aṣṭa-aiśvarya)—are ethically incomplete without inner purification. The verse praises those who remain free from envy and do not become proud, showing that humility and non-jealousy are marks of true excellence.
Sañjaya describes a class of exalted beings (implied attendants/associates) characterized by constant bliss, eloquence, and freedom from envy. He emphasizes their moral steadiness: despite possessing great powers, they do not succumb to arrogance.
