Adhyāya 6: Śibira-dvāra-sthita Bhūta-varṇana and Aśvatthāmā’s Śaraṇāgati to Mahādeva
इस प्रकार श्रीमह्ाभारत सौप्तिकपर्वमें अश्वत्थामाका प्रयाणविषयक पाँचवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ
bāhubhiḥ svāyataiḥ pīnair nānā-praharaṇodyataiḥ | baddhājad-mahāsarpa-jvālā-mālākulānanam ||
संजय बोले—वहाँ उसने चन्द्रमा और सूर्य के समान तेजस्वी, विशालकाय, अद्भुत प्राणी को द्वार पर पहरेदार-सा खड़ा देखा; उसे देखते ही रोम-रोम खड़े हो गए। वह रक्त से भीगे व्याघ्रचर्म को धारण किए था, काले मृगचर्म की चादर ओढ़े था और सर्पों का यज्ञोपवीत पहने था। उसकी मोटी-भारी भुजाएँ अनेक प्रकार के अस्त्र-शस्त्र लिए प्रहार को उद्यत जान पड़ती थीं; बाजूबंदों के स्थान पर बड़े-बड़े सर्प बँधे थे। उसका फैला हुआ मुख ज्वालाओं की मालाओं से भरा दिखता था, दाढ़ों के कारण अत्यन्त विकराल; और सहस्रों विचित्र नेत्रों से सुशोभित वह भयानक पुरुष मार्ग रोककर खड़ा था।
