A king’s dharma includes ensuring that prescribed saṃskāras are duly performed and that communal religious observances are organized in a way that stabilizes society and acknowledges protective powers associated with the realm.
After the child’s birth, the king completes the necessary birth-rites and orders a major festival in Magadha honoring Jarā, the rākṣasī connected with the child’s welfare and regarded as a protective/household deity.
