हारपद्माकरां चैव भूमिरेणूमिमालिनीम् । आर्यवृत्तवतां संख्ये सुतरां भीरुदुस्तराम्
sañjaya uvāca |
hārapadmākarāṃ caiva bhūmir eṇūmimālinīm |
āryavṛttavatāṃ saṅkhye sutarāṃ bhīrudustarām ||
संजय बोले—पृथ्वी मानो हारों के कमल-सरोवर-सी हो गई थी, जिसकी तरंगें उड़ती धूल से बन रही थीं। उस युद्ध में वह वैतरणी के समान थी—सदाचारी पुरुषों के लिए सहज पार होने योग्य, पर भयभीतों के लिए अत्यन्त दुस्तर।
