अध्याय २६ — शल्यस्य सारथ्य-नियोजनं, कर्णस्य प्रस्थानं, उत्पातदर्शनं च
Chapter 26: Śalya appointed as charioteer; Karṇa’s departure; portents
स विद्धो बहुभि: संख्ये प्रतिविव्याध तान् नृपान् । सौश्रुतिं सप्तभिर्विद्ध्वा सत्यसेनं त्रिभि: शरै:
sa viddho bahubhiḥ saṅkhye prativivyādha tān nṛpān | sauśrutiṁ saptabhir viddhvā satyasenaṁ tribhiḥ śaraiḥ ||
संजय बोले—युद्ध में बहुतों के द्वारा घायल होकर भी उसने प्रत्युत्तर में उन राजाओं को बेध डाला। सौश्रुति को सात बाणों से घायल करके उसने सत्यसेन को तीन बाण मारे।
संजय उवाच
The verse reflects kṣatriya-dharma in wartime: when attacked, a warrior responds firmly and proportionately, maintaining effectiveness and resolve rather than collapsing under injury.
In the midst of battle, after being wounded by many opponents, the warrior counterattacks: he pierces the kings who struck him, specifically wounding Sauśruti with seven arrows and Satyasena with three.
