Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the kṣatriya-world emphasis on public resolve and honor in battle: confronting a formidable opponent like Karṇa, the Pāṇḍavas and their allies respond with a loud, collective declaration—an ethical posture of courage and solidarity under pressure.

Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that, upon seeing Karṇa on the battlefield, the Pāṇḍavas and the Pañcālas raise a loud cry and begin to address him—introducing the speech or challenge that follows in the next lines.
