Mid-day Battle Description: Bhīṣma Engaged by the Pāñcālas
sañjaya uvāca | rathaiś ca sarvato bhagnaiḥ kiḍkiṇījālabhūṣitaiḥ | vājibhiś ca hatair bāṇaiḥ srastajihvaiḥ saśoṇitaiḥ ||
The verse offers a stark reminder of the ethical and human (and animal) cost of war: glory and martial display collapse into ruin, urging reflection on how dharma is tested amid violence and ambition.
Sañjaya describes the battlefield aftermath: shattered, ornamented chariots lie scattered, and horses pierced by arrows fall bloodied with tongues hanging out—an intense visual of the carnage at Kurukṣetra.
