भीष्मस्य भीमसेन-निरोधः
Bhīṣma checks Bhīmasena; matched engagements intensify
दृष्टवा भ्रातृन् रणे सर्वान् निर्जितांस्तु महारथान् । शोकसम्मूढहदयो निशाकाले सम कौरव:
sañjaya uvāca | dṛṣṭvā bhrātṝn raṇe sarvān nirjitāṁs tu mahārathān | śoka-sammūḍha-hṛdayo niśā-kāle sama-kāuravaḥ ||
संजय बोले— युद्धभूमि में अपने समस्त महारथी भाइयों को पराजित देखकर कुरुनन्दन दुर्योधन का हृदय शोक से व्याकुल हो उठा। रात्रि के समय, दुःख से आच्छन्न मन लेकर, वह विनयपूर्वक परमप्राज्ञ पितामह भीष्म के पास गया और उनसे प्रश्न करने लगा। महाराज, उसने जो पूछा, वही मैं कहता हूँ—आप सुनिए।
