Bhīṣma’s Ascendancy and the Organization of the Krauñcāruṇa Formation

ata eva he kaunteya doṣa-yukto 'pi sahajaṁ karma na tyajet; dhūmenāgnir iva sarvāṇi karmāṇi doṣeṇa āvṛtāni.

Educational Q&A

Do not renounce your natural duty merely because it is imperfect; every action carries some flaw. The right approach is to act without escapism, cultivating inner detachment and clarity while fulfilling one’s rightful responsibilities.

In the Bhīṣma Parva’s instructional discourse, the speaker addresses Arjuna as ‘Kaunteya’ and argues against abandoning one’s innate role. The verse uses the image of fire inevitably accompanied by smoke to explain why action cannot be made externally flawless, so duty should be performed rather than rejected.
