उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
शस्त्राणि चैव राजेन्द्र प्रज्वलन्तीव सम्प्रति । सप्तर्षीणामुदाराणां समवच्छाद्यते प्रभा,राजेन्द्र! सभी शस्त्र इस समय जलते-से प्रतीत होते हैं। उदार सप्तर्षियोंकी प्रभा फीकी पड़ती जाती है
śastrāṇi caiva rājendra prajvalantīva samprati | saptarṣīṇām udārāṇāṁ samavacchādyate prabhā ||
व्यास ने कहा—राजेन्द्र! इस समय सब शस्त्र मानो धधकते हुए प्रतीत होते हैं। उदार सप्तर्षियों की प्रभा ढँकती जा रही है और मन्द पड़ रही है।
व्यास उवाच
When adharma rises and a great conflict approaches, nature and even sacred presences are described as losing their normal harmony; the verse frames war not merely as human violence but as a moral-cosmic disturbance that calls for sober discernment and responsibility.
Vyāsa reports ominous signs to the king: weapons seem to blaze on their own, and the customary brilliance associated with the Seven Sages appears obscured—portents indicating an impending, extraordinary calamity connected with the coming battle.
