नेमिनिहादिसंतापो महास्त्रोदयपावक: । चित्रचापमहाज्वालो वीरक्षयमहेन्धन:
sañjaya uvāca | neminihādisantāpo mahāstrodayapāvakaḥ | citracāpamahājvālo vīrakṣayamahendhanaḥ | atāḍayan raṇe bhīṣmaṃ sahitāḥ sarvasṛñjayāḥ |
संजय बोले—रथचक्रों की घरघराहट जिसकी तपिश थी, महास्त्रों का उदय जिसकी अग्नि था, विचित्र धनुष जिसकी प्रचण्ड ज्वालाएँ थे और वीरों का क्षय जिसका महान ईंधन था—ऐसी दावानल-सी संयुक्त शक्ति बनकर समस्त सृंजय रण में चारों ओर से भीष्म पर प्रहार करने लगे।
