Measurements and Description of Śākadvīpa
चन्द्रादित्यौ महाराज संक्षेपो5यमुदाह्नत: । इत्येतत् ते महाराज पृच्छत: शास्त्रचक्षुषा
candradityau mahārāja saṅkṣepo ’yam udāhṛtaḥ | ity etat te mahārāja pṛcchataḥ śāstracakṣuṣā ||
महाराज! चन्द्रमा और सूर्य के विषय में यह संक्षेप कथन किया गया है। हे महाराज! शास्त्र-चक्षु से पूछे गए आपके प्रश्न के उत्तर में मैंने यही कहा है।
संजय उवाच
The verse emphasizes disciplined inquiry and authoritative explanation: a king should ask with “śāstra-cakṣuṣā” (learned, principled discernment), and the responder should present the essence clearly and concisely—linking ethical governance with informed understanding of cosmic order.
Sañjaya concludes a brief exposition about the Moon and the Sun, telling Dhṛtarāṣṭra that he has answered the king’s question in summary form, framing the exchange as a respectful, knowledge-based dialogue.
