Bhīṣma’s Arrow-Storm and Kṛṣṇa’s Impulse to Intervene
pakṣiṇaś ca mahāghore vyāharanto vibhramuḥ | saprabhaḥ uditaḥ sūryo niṣprabhaḥ samapadyata ||

The verse underscores that adharma and mass violence are accompanied by signs of imbalance in nature; ethical disorder in human action is mirrored as cosmic unease, warning that war—even when framed as duty—carries grave moral and spiritual consequences.
Sañjaya reports ominous portents: birds cry harshly and circle in agitation, and the sun appears dim despite rising bright—signals traditionally read as foretelling calamity as the great battle approaches.
