यस्मिंस्ते कुण्डले बद्धे तदा द्विजवरेण वै । उस समय उनकी दृष्टि बेलोंपर ही लगी हुई थी (वे कहाँ गिरते हैं

वैशम्पायन ने कहा—उस समय उस विप्रवर ने वे दोनों कुण्डल मृगछाल पर बाँध रखे थे। उनकी दृष्टि केवल बेलों पर लगी थी; कटी हुई बेलें कहाँ गिर रही हैं, इसका उन्हें ध्यान न था। इसलिए उनके द्वारा तोड़ी गई प्रायः सभी बेलें उसी मृगछाल पर आ गिरीं, जिसमें वे दोनों कुण्डल बँधे थे।
