Book 14, Chapter 43
अब्यक्तं क्षेत्रमुद्दिष्टं गुणानां प्रभवाप्ययम् । सदा पश्याम्यहं लीनो विजानामि शृणोमि च
avyaktaṁ kṣetram uddiṣṭaṁ guṇānāṁ prabhavāpyayam | sadā paśyāmy ahaṁ līno vijānāmi śṛṇomi ca ||
वायु बोले— अव्यक्त (प्रकृति) को ‘क्षेत्र’ कहा गया है, क्योंकि वही गुणों की उत्पत्ति और लय का कारण है। मैं उसमें लीन होकर सदा उसे देखता हूँ; उसे जानता हूँ और (उसका सत्य) सुनता भी हूँ।
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse identifies the ‘unmanifest’ (avyakta/Prakṛti) as the kṣetra—the foundational field in which the guṇas arise and into which they dissolve—highlighting a Sāṅkhya-style distinction between the field of nature and the knowing principle that can discern it.
Vāyudeva is speaking and offering a doctrinal clarification: he explains what is meant by ‘kṣetra’ and asserts his continual, inwardly absorbed awareness of the unmanifest basis from which the guṇas emerge and subside.
