अहिंसा परमो धर्मो हिंसा चाधर्मलक्षणा । प्रकाशलक्षणा देवा मनुष्या: कर्मलक्षणा:
ahiṃsā paramo dharmo hiṃsā cādharmalakṣaṇā | prakāśalakṣaṇā devā manuṣyāḥ karmalakṣaṇāḥ ||
वायु ने कहा—मैं अब समस्त प्राणियों के नियत कर्तव्यों के लक्षण बताता हूँ। अहिंसा परम धर्म है और हिंसा अधर्म का लक्षण है। देवता प्रकाश से पहचाने जाते हैं, और मनुष्य कर्म से—विशेषतः यज्ञादि विधिकर्मों से।
