प्रकृत्यात्मकमेवाहू रज: पर्यायकारकम् । प्रवृत्तं सर्वभूतेषु दृश्यमुत्पत्तिलक्षणम्
prakṛtyātmakam evāhu rajaḥ paryāyakārakam | pravṛttaṃ sarvabhūteṣu dṛśyam utpattilakṣaṇam ||
रज को प्रकृति-स्वरूप कहा गया है; वही परिवर्तन का कारण बनता है। वह समस्त प्राणियों में प्रवृत्त दिखाई देता है; यह दृश्य जगत् उसी का चिह्न है—उत्पत्ति और निरन्तर प्रवृत्ति ही उसका लक्षण है।
