Bhīṣma uvāca | atraivodāharantīmam itihāsaṃ purātanam | yad vṛttaṃ tīrthayātrāyāṃ śapathaṃ prati tac chṛṇu ||
भीष्म बोले—युधिष्ठिर! इसी प्रसंग में एक प्राचीन इतिहास का उदाहरण दिया जाता है। तीर्थयात्रा के समय शपथ के विषय में जो घटना घटी थी, उसे सुनो।
