Puṣkara-Śapatha Itihāsa (Agastya–Indra Dispute at the Tīrthas) |

naiva lobhaṁ tadā cakrus tataḥ svargam avāpruvan

Educational Q&A

Resisting greed—even under severe hunger and strong inducements—is a mark of noble character and becomes a cause of spiritual merit, culminating in the attainment of heaven (svarga).

Bhishma describes a group of great-souled people who, despite being extremely hungry and being enticed with various pleasures by influential persons, refused to act out of greed; as a result, they attained svarga.
