The Duty to Fulfill Promised Gifts
यां रात्रि जायते जीवो यां रात्रि च विनश्यति । एतस्मिन्नन्तरे यद् यत् सुकृतं तस्य भारत
bhīṣma uvāca |
yāṃ rātri jāyate jīvo yāṃ rātri ca vinaśyati |
etasminn antare yad yat sukṛtaṃ tasya bhārata bharatanandana |
भीष्म बोले—हे भरतनन्दन! जिस रात जीव जन्म लेता है और जिस रात वह नष्ट होता है, उन दोनों रात्रियों के बीच जीवन में वह जो-जो पुण्य करता है—यज्ञ, दान और तप से जो कुछ भी कमाता है—वह सब प्रतिज्ञा-भंग के पाप से नष्ट हो जाता है।
