Karma-Phala Rahasya and the Ethics of Dāna
bhīṣma uvāca | yo dadyād aparikliṣṭam annam adhvani vartate | śrāntāyādṛṣṭapūrvāya tasya puṇyaphalaṁ mahat ||
Giving food kindly and without inconvenience to oneself—especially to a tired stranger encountered on the road—produces great merit. The verse elevates everyday hospitality into a significant dharmic act.
Bhishma continues his instruction on dāna-dharma and karmaphala, highlighting a specific example: feeding an unknown, exhausted traveler during one’s journey, and declaring the resulting spiritual reward to be great.
