अजो महार्ह: स्वाभाव्यो जितामित्र: प्रमोदन: । आनन्दो नन्दनो नन्द: सत्यधर्मा त्रिविक्रम:
ajo mahārhaḥ svābhāvyo jitāmitraḥ pramodanaḥ | ānando nandano nandaḥ satyadharmā trivikramaḥ ||
भीष्म बोले—वह अज (अजन्मा) है; महार्ह, परम पूज्य; स्वाभाव्य, स्वयंसिद्ध और नित्य-परिपूर्ण; जितामित्र, शत्रुओं का विजेता; प्रमोदन, स्मरण मात्र से हर्ष देने वाला। वह आनन्द—स्वयं आनन्दस्वरूप; नन्दन—सबको प्रसन्न करने वाला; नन्द—सम्पूर्ण ऐश्वर्य से सम्पन्न; सत्यधर्मा—सत्य और धर्मस्वभाव; तथा त्रिविक्रम—तीन पगों में तीनों लोक नापने वाला है।
