आवर्तनो निवृत्तात्मा संवृत: सम्प्रमर्दन: । अहःसंवर्तको वल्लिरनिलो धरणीधर:
āvartano nivṛttātmā saṁvṛtaḥ sampramardanaḥ | ahaḥsaṁvartako vahnir anilo dharaṇīdharaḥ ||
भीष्म ने कहा—वह आवर्तन है, जो संसारचक्र को प्रवर्तित करता है; और निवृत्तात्मा है, जो स्वयं बन्धन से नित्य मुक्त है। वह संवृत है, अपनी योगमाया से आच्छादित; और सम्प्रमर्दन है, जो रुद्र आदि उग्र रूपों से सबका मर्दन करता है। वह अहःसंवर्तक है, सूर्य-रूप से दिन का प्रवर्तक; वह्नि है, जो हवि को वहन करता है; अनिल है, जो प्राण-रूप वायु है; और धरणीधर है, जो वराह और शेष-रूप से पृथ्वी को धारण करता है।
