Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
धनं धान्यं प्रियान् दारान् यानं वासस्तथादभुतम् । श्रियं दृष्टवा मनुष्याणामसूयामि निरर्थकम्
dhanaṁ dhānyaṁ priyān dārān yānaṁ vāsas tathādbhūtam | śriyaṁ dṛṣṭvā manuṣyāṇām asūyāmi nirarthakam ||
दूसरों के पास धन-धान्य, प्रिय पत्नी, उत्तम सवारियाँ, अद्भुत वस्त्र और समृद्धि देखकर मैं बिना किसी कारण ही उनसे ईर्ष्या करके जलता रहता था।
