સોમ પવમાનને પવિત્ર (ગાળણી/અવી-રૂંવાટાની ગાળ)માંથી તેજસ્વી રીતે વહેતો શુદ્ધ બની યજ્ઞમાં શુભરૂપે આવવા માટે આહ્વાન કરવામાં આવે છે. તે દેવો સાથે એકત્વ પામી યજ્ઞસદનમાં નિવાસ કરે અને યજમાનને પશુસંપત્તિ, યશ, સ્વસ્તિ (કલ્યાણ અને રક્ષા) અર્પે. યજ્ઞફળરૂપે સંતતિ, પ્રજનનશક્તિ અને જીવનવૃદ્ધિ માટે સરસ્વંતને વિશેષ રીતે પ્રાર્થવામાં આવે છે.

આ પ્રેરણાથી આગળ વધતો, સુવર્ણ પવિત્રક (છાણણી) દ્વારા શુદ્ધ થતો, દેવ—દબાયેલ સોમ—દેવો સાથે મિશ્રિત થઈ, રસ સાથે પવિત્રને પરિભ્રમણ કરે છે; હોતૃ સમાન, પશુસમૃદ્ધ સદનમાં પ્રવેશે છે.

भद्रा वस्त्रा समन्या ऽ ऽ3 वसानो महान्कविर्निवचनानि शंसन् आ वच्यस्व चम्वोः पूयमानो विचक्षणो जागृविर्देववीतौ
શુભ વસ્ત્રો ધારણ કરતો મહાન કવિ, ભિન્ન-ભિન્ન વચનોનું ઉચ્ચારણ કરતો, હે (સોમ), ચમૂના પાત્રોમાં પ્રગટ થા; પવિત્ર થતો, સ્પષ્ટદર્શી, જાગૃત, દેવવિજય (devavītau)માં સ્થિત રહેજે.

પ્રિય (સોમ) શિખર પર, ભેંસની ઊન પર, મૃજ્યમાન થઈ શુદ્ધ થાય છે; યશોમાં સર્વોત્તમ યશસ્વી, અમારા માટે નિવાસ કરનાર: માર્ગ પર ગુંજતો સ્વર કર; શુદ્ધ થતો, તમે સદા અમને સ્વસ્તિભિઃ રક્ષો.
