यदा द्रष्टा द्रौपदेयान् महेषून् शूरान् कृतास्त्रान् रथयुद्धकोविदान् | आशीविषान् घोरविषानिवायत- स्तदा युद्ध धार्तराष्ट्रोडन्वतप्स्यत्
sañjaya uvāca | yadā draṣṭā draupadeyān maheṣūn śūrān kṛtāstrān rathayuddhakovidān | āśīviṣān ghoraviṣān ivāyatas tadā yuddhe dhārtarāṣṭro 'nvatapsyat ||
સંજય બોલ્યા—જ્યારે ધૃતરાષ્ટ્રપુત્ર દુર્યોધન દ્રૌપદીના પુત્રોને—મહાધનુર્ધર, શૂરવીર, અસ્ત્રવિદ્યામાં પૂર્ણ પ્રશિક્ષિત અને રથયુદ્ધમાં કુશળ—ભયંકર વિષવાળા વિષધર સર્પોની જેમ ધસી આવતા જોશે, ત્યારે યુદ્ધના મધ્યમાં જ આ યુદ્ધ શરૂ કરાવવાની ભૂલ માટે તેને કડવો પશ્ચાત્તાપ થશે।
