Karma, Varṇa-Dharma, and the Ethics of Governance
न मर्मगां जातु वक्तासि रूक्षां नोपश्रुतिं कटुकां नोत मुक्ताम् । धर्मारामामर्थवतीमहिंस्रा- मेतां वाचं तव जानीम सूत
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca |
na marmagāṃ jātu vaktāsi rūkṣāṃ nopśrutiṃ kaṭukāṃ nota muktām |
dharmārāmām arthavatīm ahiṃsrām etāṃ vācaṃ tava jānīma sūta, sūta ||
યુધિષ્ઠિરે કહ્યું—હે સૂત! તારા મુખમાંથી કદી એવી વાણી નીકળતી નથી જે મર્મને ઘાયલ કરે—રૂક્ષ, કડવી, અથવા બેદરકારીથી છૂટી ગયેલી. તું ન તો નીરસ, ન તો અપ્રાસંગિક વાત બોલે છે. અમે સારી રીતે જાણીએ છીએ કે તારી વાણી ધર્માનુકૂળ, સજ્જનોને પ્રિય, અર્થસભર અને હિંસાભાવથી રહિત છે.
