अध्याय २९ — वासुदेव–संजय संवादः
Karma, Varṇa-Dharma, and the Ethics of Governance
इदं पुनर्वचन धार्त॑राष्ट्र सुयोधनं संजय श्रावयेथा: । यस्ते शरीरे हृदयं दुनोति काम: कुरूनसपत्नो<नुशिष्याम्
idaṃ punarvacanaṃ dhārtarāṣṭra suyodhanaṃ saṃjaya śrāvayethāḥ | yas te śarīre hṛdayaṃ dunoti kāmaḥ kurūn asapatno 'nuśiṣyām, saṃjaya |
હે સંજય, ધૃતરાષ્ટ્રપુત્ર સુયોધનને મારી આ વાત ફરી સંભળાવ—“કુરુઓ પર નિષ્કંટક, નિર્વિરોધ રાજ્ય કરવાનું જે તને મનમાં કામ ઊઠ્યું છે, તે જ તારા હૃદયને માત્ર પીડે છે. તેની સિદ્ધિનો કોઈ ઉપાય નથી. અમે એટલા પૌરુષહીન નથી કે તારી પ્રિય ઇચ્છા પૂર્ણ થવા દઈએ. હે ભરતવંશના શ્રેષ્ઠ વીર, ઇન્દ્રપ્રસ્થ મને પરત આપ; નહિ તો યુદ્ધ પસંદ કર.”
