Sañjaya’s Envoy-Speech on Peace

कुतो युद्ध जातु नरो5वगच्छेत्‌ को देवशप्तो हि वृणीत युद्धम्‌ । सुखैषिण: कर्म कुर्वन्ति पार्था धर्मादहीनं यच्च लोकस्य पथ्यम्‌,मनुष्य कभी भी किसलिये युद्धका विचार करेगा? किसे देवताओंने शाप दे रखा है, जो जान-बूझकर युद्धका वरण करेगा? कुन्तीके पुत्र सुखकी इच्छा रखकर वही कर्म करते हैं, जो धर्मके विपरीत न हो तथा जिससे सब लोगोंका भला होता हो

kuto yuddhaṃ jātu naro ’vagacchet ko devaśapto hi vṛṇīta yuddham | sukhaiṣiṇaḥ karma kurvanti pārthā dharmād ahīnaṃ yac ca lokasya pathyam ||

“મનુષ્ય ક્યારેય યુદ્ધનો વિચાર શા માટે કરે? દેવતાઓનો શાપ લાગેલો કોણ છે કે જાણીને યુદ્ધ પસંદ કરે? કુંતીપુત્રો સુખ-કલ્યાણ ઇચ્છીને એ જ કર્મ કરે છે જે ધર્મવિરુદ્ધ નથી અને જે લોકહિતકારક તથા પથ્ય છે.”
