Atithi’s Direction to the Nāga-sage Padma at Naimiṣa (अतिथ्युपदेशः—नैमिषे पद्मनागोपाख्यानप्रस्तावः)
हैरण्यगर्भाच्च वसिष्ठाद्धिरण्यकशिपु: शापं प्राप्तवान् यस्मात् त्वयान्यो वृतो होता तस्मादसमाप्त-यज्ञस्त्वमपूर्वात् सत्त्वजातादू वर्धं प्राप्स्यसीति तच्छापदानाद्धिरण्यकशिपु: प्राप्तवान् वधम्
hairaṇyagarbhācca vasiṣṭāddhiraṇyakaśipuḥ śāpaṃ prāptavān yasmāt tvayānyo vṛto hotā tasmādasamāpta-yajñas tvam apūrvāt sattvajātād ūrdhvaṃ prāpsyasīti tacchāpadānāddhiraṇyakaśipuḥ prāptavān vadham
બ્રહ્મા (હિરણ્યગર્ભ) ના પુત્ર વસિષ્ઠ તરફથી હિરણ્યકશિપુને શાપ મળ્યો; કારણ કે તેણે વસિષ્ઠની અવગણના કરીને બીજો હોતૃ પસંદ કર્યો હતો. વસિષ્ઠે કહ્યું—“તું મને તિરસ્કારીને અન્ય હોતૃ વર્યો છે; તેથી આ યજ્ઞ પૂર્ણ થવા પહેલાં જ કોઈ અભૂતપૂર્વ સત્તાના હાથે તારો વધ થશે.” એ શાપના બળથી હિરણ્યકશિપુ પોતાના નિયત વધને પામ્યો।
