Nārada at Badarīāśrama: the ultimate referent of daiva and pitṛ worship

dhanena kiṁ yan na dadāti nāśrute balena kiṁ yena ripuṁ na bādhate | śrutena kiṁ yena na dharmam ācaret kim ātmanā yo na jitendriyo vaśī ||

Educational Q&A

External endowments—wealth, learning, strength, even spiritual study—have value only when they are expressed as right action: giving, attentive receptivity, rightful use of power, practice of dharma, and above all mastery over the senses.

In the didactic setting of Śānti Parva, Vyāsa delivers a compact series of rhetorical questions to emphasize that virtues are proven by conduct, not possession—framing ethical counsel for rulers and householders alike.
